Practical guidance before you export

What makes a PDF corrupt?

Interrupted downloads, damaged cross-reference tables, missing bytes, malformed objects, and broken trailers can prevent a PDF from opening.

  • Keep the original file unchanged
  • Try downloading or copying the source again first
  • Repair can only use bytes that still exist

What PDF repair can and cannot recover

A tolerant parser may reopen readable objects and rewrite them into a cleaner structure, but missing or encrypted content cannot be recreated.

  • Partial recovery can omit damaged pages
  • A successful rewrite still needs visual review
  • Password protection requires the known password and the Unlock PDF tool

Tool-specific FAQ

Fidelity and output questions

Can every corrupt PDF be repaired?+

No. Missing, overwritten, encrypted, or severely malformed content may be impossible to recover.

What does the repair service do?+

A tolerant parser reads recoverable pages and rewrites them into a new PDF structure. It does not invent missing content.

How is repaired output verified?+

The browser reopens the result, recounts pages, and checks that the first page can be loaded for rendering.
