Password protection

Require an open password before a compatible viewer displays the PDF.

Permissions

Control the four action flags supported by the current engine.

Batch

Apply one profile to as many as 20 PDFs per server batch.

Confirm the live profile before any file is uploaded.

Protection options

Security controls you can verify

Nexynto applies AES-256 encryption on the server. You can require a password to open the PDF and configure supported viewer permission flags without changing the page-resolution workflow.

How it works

A controlled three-step workflow

01

Add and inspect

The workspace verifies readable PDFs and flags documents that appear encrypted.

02

Configure and review

Set passwords, permissions, and confirm the live protection profile.

03

Protect and verify

The server creates AES-256 outputs. Download and test them in your target PDF viewer.

Open password vs permissions controls

An open password gates document viewing. A permissions or owner password controls changes to permission flags. Store both securely: Nexynto cannot recover forgotten passwords.

Important: PDF permissions can be interpreted differently by different PDF viewers and should not be treated as a substitute for access-control systems.

Frequently asked questions

Protect PDF with clear expectations

How do I password-protect a PDF?

Add one or more PDFs, enter and confirm an open password, review the optional permission controls, and select Protect PDF. The files are sent to the Nexynto server for temporary processing.

What is the difference between an open password and permissions password?

The open password is required to view the document. The optional permissions password is used as the PDF owner password for permission changes. PDF viewers may enforce permission flags differently.

Can I stop a PDF from being printed?

You can block the printing permission flag. This is a viewer-enforced restriction and is not equivalent to server-side access control.

Can I prevent copying text from a PDF?

You can block the copy and extraction permission flag. Enforcement depends on the PDF viewer and should not be treated as a complete data-loss prevention control.

Can I protect multiple PDFs at once?

Yes. The same reviewed security profile applies to every file in a batch. The current server accepts up to 20 files per batch.

Can I remove PDF protection later if I know the password?

Yes. Use Unlock PDF with the known open password, then protect the resulting file again if you need a different policy.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Yes. Protect PDF uses temporary server processing because the AES-256 permission engine runs on the Nexynto backend. Passwords are separated from normal persisted job metadata and are not placed in URLs or browser storage.

Does password protection change PDF quality?

The engine copies existing pages and adds encryption; it does not intentionally rasterize or recompress page content. Review important output in your preferred viewer.

Can I protect a PDF on mobile?

Yes. You can upload, configure, process, and download PDFs in a supported mobile browser, subject to server file-size and batch limits.
