Prepare the source before conversion
Open the source PDF, confirm its page count, and check that important pages render correctly. Repair structural errors first and use OCR when an image-only record must remain searchable.
Keep the original unchanged. PDF/A conversion creates a derivative with different bytes and can invalidate an existing digital signature.
Choose only a genuinely supported profile
The converter should expose only profiles its active rendering engine can create. Nexynto currently reports PDF/A-1b when that export path is available.
Do not rename a normal PDF with a PDF/A label. The archival profile depends on file structure, embedded resources, metadata, and prohibited-feature rules.
Review generation before download
A successful conversion means the service produced an output. Preview it, reconcile page count where reported, compare representative pages, and verify file size before download.
Generation success is not the same as a formal standards-validation pass. Keep those outcomes separate in records and user interfaces.
Retain evidence with the archive
Store the source, generated derivative, selected profile, conversion date, software version, and any validator report required by your policy. A file without provenance is harder to defend or migrate later.
- Preserve the source PDF.
- Record the selected PDF/A profile.
- Keep formal validator output separately.
- Test retrieval and rendering periodically.
Put the workflow into practice
Arrange source documents, select the pages you need, and create one PDF locally in your browser. Review the result before choosing any optional next step.

Clear answers before you merge
Does conversion make any PDF standards-compliant?
No. Generation must be followed by formal validation when compliance evidence is required.
Should I delete the original PDF?
No. Preserve the source and treat the PDF/A file as a derivative archival copy.
Will digital signatures remain valid?
Usually not. Conversion changes the document bytes, so preserve the signed original.
Can scanned PDFs be archived?
Yes, but apply and verify OCR first when searchable text is an archival requirement.
