Clear limitation: permanent marks work in every viewer; alerts and automatic closing require a compatible desktop PDF viewer and cannot revoke downloaded copies.

Tool profile

Apply a Nexynto-managed access policy with a clear expiry

Time-Locked PDF creates a managed access workflow around a document. Access checks can enforce an expiry while the file remains in that managed delivery path; the PDF format itself does not become universally self-expiring.

Practical example: Share a review copy for a defined decision window, while retaining the authoritative source in the organization’s records.

Know before processing: No policy can guarantee prevention of screenshots, copying or redistribution after content is viewed. A downloaded ordinary PDF cannot be made intrinsically self-destructing across every viewer.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you begin

Does the PDF delete itself?

No. Nexynto can enforce expiry in its managed access path, but cannot guarantee deletion of copies already obtained.

Is expiry the same as encryption?

No. Encryption governs file decryption; expiry governs future access through a managed service.

Can recipients take screenshots?

No web access policy can guarantee prevention of external capture after content is displayed.

When is it appropriate?

It can support bounded review or delivery windows when download behavior and policy limitations are understood.
