How to Review ODG Fonts, Gradients and Links After PDF Conversion

Complex drawing files can look correct at a glance while small but important details have shifted. A focused proofing checklist helps separate a successful conversion from one that merely produced a readable PDF.

01

Check fonts, text boxes and alignment first

Compare headings, small labels and tightly fitted text boxes. Font substitution can change line length, baseline, wrapping and connector placement around text.

If exact typography is mandatory, ensure the font is available to the rendering environment or use a documented preflight process. Tagged PDF can improve structural output when the source itself has usable semantics, but it does not repair missing fonts.

  • Look for unexpected wrapping.
  • Check rotated and vertical text.
  • Inspect clipped labels.
  • Verify symbols and non-Latin scripts.
02

Inspect gradients, transparency and imported artwork

Review overlapping transparent objects against both light and dark backgrounds. Check gradient direction, clipping masks, shadows, line joins and imported image sharpness.

Use Lossless for diagnostic comparison. If that version is correct, test Balanced or Compact and decide whether any change is acceptable for the delivery.

04

Use an explicit acceptance checklist

Save the accepted PDF separately from experimental outputs and retain the ODG source used to create it.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you merge

Why did a font change?

The rendering service may not have the exact font, causing LibreOffice to substitute another family.

Why does a gradient look different?

Complex effects can be interpreted differently by the source editor, export filter or PDF viewer.

Should I include notes?

Only when notes are intentionally part of the delivered PDF; leave them disabled for most public drawings.

Does tagged PDF guarantee accessibility?

No. Tags help only when source structure is meaningful, and the final PDF still requires accessibility review.

How should I verify links?

Test internal and external destinations in an independent PDF viewer after conversion.
